My Ninjas in the Jungle pattern officially releases today! I know I say this everytime I have a new pattern… BUT, I really like this one. So, I thought I’d tell you a little bit about it and show you some pictures of my quilt.
A little behind the scenes

I wrote this one specifically for the fabric line I used in the cover quilt. That lovely fabric line is Rainforest Glow by Benertex, Kanvas Studio, and it should be showing up in shops soon. I love the bright colors and fun prints. I was SEW excited when my design was selected for this fabric line. The fabric even glows in the dark! How cool is that?!
I actually drew the design for this one in the car on the way to my son’s golf tournament. I actually get a lot of work done in the car. We go on road trips for golf a lot. At the time when I first drew this, my Ninja Star Sampler block of the month was still going on. I had ninja stars on the brain, but that wasn’t the only thing. My mind was a little jumbled that day. I wanted to draw ninja stars; I wanted to draw pinwheels; I wanted to draw some sort of Irish Chain variation… Oh, and I also wanted to do something with the secondary design that formed when the blocks in my Ninja Star Sampler came together. I had so many ideas trying to get out of my head. I couldn’t choose which one I wanted to draw, so I didn’t. I just used them all. I feel like combining pinwheels and ninja stars is my favorite quilt design idea so far.
It sounds silly, but naming my patterns is one of my favorite parts. I typically try to use something that hints at the design (except for Forkledoodle). For “Ninjas in the Jungle”, I think the “Ninja” part is obvious with all the ninja star units. The Jungle part is related to the fabric. The Rainforest Glow with the fireflies, frogs, and foliage reminded me of jungle prints. So, here we are with “Ninjas in the Jungle”. For seem reason that name had a nice ring to it for me, and I couldn’t think of anything better anyway.
Now for some more quilt pictures!
Now that you know a little bit about how this design came about, here’s some more pictures.

I decided to quilt this one in swirls. I always picture ninja stars quilted in swirls. So, I decided to skip the second guessing myself, and just quilt this one in swirls. I got a little help from the teenage snugglebug for choosing the thread color. We decided to use some shiny polyesther quilting thread from Missouri Star Quilt Company (affiliate link). That color is called Asian Blue.

I love the fabric I used to bind this one. The blue looks great with navy background in that frog print I used for backing. It also looks great with the logo on my label. Side note since I get lots of people asking about them… I get the labels custom made from Meander & Make (affiliate link).
And one more picture for good measure…

That’s all I’ve got for today
