Baby Clothes Quilt

Baby Clothes Quilt

My t-shirt quilts have made it onto the blog a couple time recently because I’ve just been making a lot of them lately. You can check out my previous posts on T-shirt Quilts here and here. This one is a quilt I made out of baby clothes. Maybe baby items would be a better word because I used pieces from a few blankets, bibs, and a cute little wool hat as well. Baby clothes quilts are very similar to t-shirt quilts, but this one is a little more complex than my typical t-shirt quilt with the appliqued bibs and ruffles.

I changed the quilting up from block to block just like I do with my typical t-shirt quilts. I always have a good time with changing the up the quilting from block to block, with lots of free motion quilting and tracing a few graphics here and there.

I used a dark hot pink for the backing. I feel like dark backings in either solids or simple/unbusy prints look best with my t-shirt/clothing quilts. That in combination with a light thread really make my quilting pop on the back of the quilt. After spending all of the extra time with tracing graphics and varying the free motion quilting from block to block, I want it to be noticeable on the back. The back of the quilt should really look cool just like the front of the quilt does. I added some words on this one to give it a little something special.

A little side note: if you’re practicing your free motion quilting, writing your name or other words in cursive is a great way to work on your control.

I decided to bind this one with a light mint green. I thought it was a good contrast to all of the pink on the front as well as the dark hot pink backing. It’s also still a pretty color that fits well with all of the baby girl clothes and items in the quilt top. I added a decorative topstitch to the binding as always. Securing the front of your binding with a decorative stitch is not only pretty, but it makes for a nice secure binding.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read my blog!

I hope you enjoyed it.
