Week 6 of our quilt along starts today! We’re going to make our last 8 cube blocks! Now that we have all of the strip units made and cut, this part will go super quick! These will be our last blocks, and then we can get our pretty quilt tops put together next week! If you haven’t got your pattern yet, you can order it here. You can view the quilt along schedule here. If you’re joining us late, you can still sign up as long as the quilt along is still going.
There isn’t much new this week, but I do have another tip for you. I do talk about this a little bit in the pattern. Sometimes it may happen that your seams pressed to the sides are not going in the right directions to be able to nest them. In the grand scheme of your entire quilt, this really isn’t a big deal. If one of the seams isn’t going in the direction you need it to go, just move it the way it needs to go. Yes, your seam will be twisted, but after your quilt is quilted, washed and crinkled you will not know or care which seams are twisted. Your quilt will still look great! You can see me doing this in this video.
If someone actually cuts up a perfectly fabulous quilt to check for twisted seams they are probably not the type of person who I would bother worrying over what they think of my quilt anyway… To be honest a little extra bulk from a few twisted seams here and there or even everywhere doesn’t scare me. If it did I’d probably just press it down (still twisted) and use a clapper to flatten it out as much as possible. TIP: If you don’t have a clapper, a maple cutting board will also do nicely. Now with all that said, if a twisted seam is something that would bother you, just press the seams open. There are lots of different methods out there for quilters, and finding what works best for you is part of growing your skills.

Get a custom label for your quilt!
Our quilt top is so close to being finished! Do you have any ideas for how you want to quilt it? Do you have your backing and binding fabrics picked out? If you’re going to add a corner label to your quilt, you need to put it on after quilting and squaring but before binding. If you want a custom Dublin Fancy label with your name on it, you can get one! I order all of my labels from Melanie at Souther Charm Quilts/Meander and Make. They are great labels. You can order your Dublin Fancy Quilt label here. Just be sure to select “Dublin Fancy Label” to get the one that looks like the label pictured below. Last week I said I would show you picutes of the other labels soon, so we’ll do that in this post! Scroll down to see them. They are super cute too! Full disclosure: that was an affiliate link meaning I earn commission, but it doesn’t affect the price you pay. Use the coupon code SNUGGLEBUGSTITCHING for 10% off.
Those other labels (available at that same link)
So, I’ve been a little obsessed and having a good old time with getting special quilt labels made for my patterns lately. I draw a graphic with the pattern, send it to Melanie, and she uses it to design a fabulous label for me every time. Dublin Fancy isn’t the first one I did this for, but it is the one that started this little obsession. In my label listing (affiliate link), you’ll see options for Partial Dreams and Franken-Patches listed.
Partial Dreams is a free pattern available to my newsletter subscribers. It’s also the next pattern I’ll be using for a quilt along. Just a little about that quilt along… It will run May 8 – July 3, 2024, and it is as FREE as I can make it. FREE quilt along, FREE pattern. You gotta love FREE STUFF! You can sign up for that quilt along HERE. The pattern and quilt along schedule will be emailed to you after you sign up. Check out the picture of the custom label for my Partial Dreams pattern below.
Franken-Patches was a design of mine that was accepted by Cut Loose Press. It’s a pretty cool pattern for a few reasons:
1) It’s super affordable at only $3.99!
2) The Cut Loose Press patterns are complete yet still concise patterns that print on the front and back of just one page.
3) It is SEW much easier than it looks. You may actually laugh a little bit when you get the pattern and find out how it actually goes together. The half-square triangles and hour glasses you see in this one are probably the easiest you’ll ever make.
