I have a new pattern with Cut Loose Press! This is actually my FIFTH pattern with them. I like to work with Cut Loose Press because it gives me a chance to offer you patterns for just $3.99. You can get my Northstar Ninjas pattern HERE, or find all of my Cut Loose Press patterns HERE.
So, here’s a little bit about the quilt and the pattern.
Why the name?
The “ninjas” part seems obvious, but there is a little bit of a story behind it. I’ve been using ninjas stars in my designs a lot lately. First, it was the Ninja Star Sampler BOM back in 2024. Then Ninjas in the Jungle. I also have another design with some accidental ninja stars that I can’t reveal until next year. After all that, I thought I was over my ninja star phase. BUT, I guess not…
When I designed Northstar Ninjas, I didn’t mean for it to be another ninja star quilt. I actually thought of if as more of a star in the night sky. Then, when the little SnuggleBug saw the mockup. The first thing he said – “you making another ninja star quilt?” It doesn’t look like a ninja star quilt block, but I suppose it does look like an actual ninja star. So, that’s how I got the name, “Northstar Ninjas”.
A few pictures of the quilt
I love blue and yellow quilts! I used some leftover Benartex fabric from Jackie Robinson’s “All About Daisies” line. I decided to use the pink shades to make the star design.

I usually use swirls to quilt my ninja star quilts, but I decided to use medium stipples for this one since the color and design combo in this one is so striking. I thought the swirls might acutally be a little too much.

For the backing, I used a blue floral that was giving me sort of a blue willow vibe. I actually used to collect blue willow dishes when I was in college, so I couldn’t resist using this fabric for the backing. I’ve also been in a phase of wanting to match up the prints along the back seam for a while now. This is not something I ever cared to do until I made the cover quilt for my Sew Diamond Quilt pattern. That quilt got to be in the Benartex display at Bernina University back in June of 2024. So, I was on my best behaviour when I made it. I decided to match up the prints along the backing seam, and I learned that this is actually fun (to me anyway). So, I’ve done several quilts that way since then. Do you see the seam? Hint: it’s a lot easier to see in the close up on the right. I do have a tutorial for matching up the prints on my YouTube channel. .

I finished this one with some gingham binding. I love gingham, so why not? People always ask me where I get the labels. I have them custom made by Melanie at Meander and Make (affiliate link). Use the code SNUGGLEBUGSTITCHING at checkout for 10% off.
