Framed Pinwheels Quilt Along: Week 6

Framed Pinwheels Quilt Along: Week 6

It’s Week 6 of our Framed Pinwheels quilt along! This pattern is from Missouri Star Quilt Company, my favorite Missouri Star pattern. You can read a little more about that and why it’s my favorite HERE.

Videos for this week

I’ve been making lots of videos for this quilt along: demos, advice, reveals and such. We just have one video for this week.

Cut, Rearrange, and Resew

I will be adding videos throughout the quilt along. You can view all of the currently available videos at any time in this playlist.

On the Schedule for this Week

For this week, we’re going to take all those 9-Patches that we worked so hard on last week cut them up, rearrange them, and sew them back together to make our final blocks.

Disappearing 9-Patch Blocks

This pattern uses disappearing 9-Patch blocks. You’ll make your 9-Patches, cut them up, rearrange them and sew them back together to get a new block. This gives you a quilt that looks harder than it is. There are several ways to do disappearing 9-Patch blocks.  Framed Pinwheels uses the classic method with a the added pinwheels to spice it up. For this one, you’ll cut the blocks down the center both vertically and horizontally making four quadrants. ***TIP: It’s a good idea to press the blocks before you cut into them. You’ll get more accurate cuts if your block is pressed nice and flat first.

Once you make the cuts, you’ll flip the top left and bottom right pieces 180 degrees and sew them back together. This seems like a lot of steps, but it’s much quicker and easier than cutting and sewing all those pieces that end up looking like sashing and cornerstones.

When your done, you end up with your finished block! I go into more detail with this in the video HERE.
