I made LOTS of quilts before I ever started blogging about them, and a lot of those quilts haven’t made it onto the blog yet because there just aren’t enough hours in the day. I’ve decided I need to start giving my pre-blog lovelies some time in the spotlight. So, in no particular order, here I go…
The blocks in this quilt are the Missouri Star. This one was a commissioned quilt. My client found the pattern from Missouri Star Quilt Company; they have a great tutorial here. She also chose all the fabrics and helped choose the quilting.
There are a lot of fabulous things about this quilt that I love! I’ve had the pleasure of working with this client several time, and she has great vision for designing quilts!
It’s easier to see the quilting from the back, so here’s a shot of that. The lady I made this one for wanted to have the stars outlined in straight-line quilting and some sort of floral design on the quilt as well. I suggested doing that echoing floral design in the white spots and outline all the prints in the straight lines to make the stars pop. I love free motion quilting, and ever since I got into free motion, I haven’t done straight-line quilting much. So, I’m not sure that I would have thought of that combo on my own. It did take a lot longer than if I’d covered the whole quilt in the floral design: SOOO many threads that I had to bury on this one and SOOO much stopping and starting to turn the quilt around. BUT, once I started filling in some of the white spaces with the florals and saw it with the straight-lines around the prints… well, I knew it was worth it!
The fabrics in this one are beyond lovely! That fabric line is Dover by Brenda Riddle for Moda Fabrics, and it’s so calm and soothing. I also love that backing color that my client chose, Cucumber by Bella Solids.
Check out the decorative stitch on that binding. Decorative top stitches on binding are a go to for me. I’ve talked about this before, but there are some definite advantages to this: extra secure and looks good on both the front and the back are what do it for me.
If you want to see more pictures of this one, I did post some on my Instagram.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog!
I hope you enjoyed it.
If you have any questions, please feel free to leave me a comment or email me. Iād love to hear from you.
Happy quilting!
