I’ve made lots of quilts, and I’ve been selling quilts for a few years now. But in all of that quilting, I haven’t participated in many quilt alongs. This quilt was actually just the second quilt along I participated in. I’m in the middle of #3 right now.
This is the LuLu Louise quilt pattern by Southern Charm Quilts. This is a great pattern for having a little fun with your color gradient, and it’s just a pretty pattern. It’s from her book “A Life With Quilts”. You can get the book from her shop, Meander + Make. Use the coupon code SNUGGLEBUGSTITCHING for 10% off!
I had the privilege of helping her test one of the other patterns in the book, the “Attic Window” quilt. IT was a really fun and pretty pattern. So, when I got the book, I knew I wanted to make the other four patterns as well. I also wanted to not just find the time, but make the time (if I have to) for some quilt alongs this year. You can check out my pattern tester version of “Attic Window” here.
A bad Quilt Alonger?
I have a post about my first attempt at participating in a quilt along. It was the “Mariposa” quilt from the same book. I think it’s fair to say that I did NOT do a good job with the pacing part of it for the “Mariposa” quilt along. I finished the whole top during the first few days of the quilt along, a month’s worth of tasks in a few days… I’m pretty sure it’s fair to say that this is a pacing fail, but in my defense we had a few snow days during that time. This is a rare occurrence in Alabama, so I had to make the most of them.
Did I do any better on this one? Yes and no. I didn’t finish the entire top on the first day, so I suppose that’s a win… BUT, I got ahead of myself as usual and finished a lot of the piecing before it was scheduled. This didn’t really affect my finished project, but I did have a lot of it finished before the helpful tips that came with that week in the quilt along. If I were new to quilting, this could have been a problem. The verdict: I did a little better this time, but I’m still a bad quilt alonger who jumps ahead. I guess I’ll have to keep trying. We’ll see if I do any better with #3. It’s still in progress and too soon to call.
Details about this quilt
-Pattern: Lulu Louise by Southern Charm Quilts. It’s part of her book “A Life With Quilts”. Here’s that link again to the shop where you can buy the book – Meander + Make. That label is available there as well.
-Fabrics: The foreground on the front is “Shine On” by Sharon Holland for Art Gallery Fabrics. I got it from Fat Quarter Shop. Check out their Flash Sale as well for a great deal.
The background on the front is Moda BasicGrey Grunge.
The backing uses all the same prints on the front plus a few pieces from “Shine On” that didn’t make it into the front. That green background color on the back is Art Gallery Pure Solids in “Ocean Fog”.
-Quilting: free motion – stipples
-Backing: a fun scrappy backing
-Binding: scrappy, using pieces left over from the foreground prints.
This quilt is available in my shop while supplies last, AND it’s currently 25% off for the rest of this month.
As always, thank you for taking the time to read my blog!
I hope you enjoyed it.
