Another Finished Quilt

Another Finished Quilt

Now that we’re about a month into 2022, our goals should be underway. Some of the goals have already been given up on, and that’s ok too. Sometimes things get bumped for later because now just isn’t the right time. One of my goals for 2022 was to participate in some quilt alongs. As many quilts as I’ve made, I’d never actually signed up for a quilt along before this one.

My first shot at participating in a quilt along – Mariposa Quilt by Southern Charm Quilts

I’ve always wanted to join in on the fun but always convinced myself that I was too busy. I talk about this a little bit on an instagram post. I made this quilt while participating in my first quilt along! It’s the Mariposa Quilt by Southern Charm Quilts. The pattern is part of her book “A Life With Quilts”, available at Meander + Make. Use the coupon code SNUGGLEBUGSTITCHING for 10% off. She also has some great custom labels for this quilt pattern.

So how did I do with this first quilt along?

Well, I’m super happy with how the quilt turned out. I really like blue and yellow quilts, but I don’t use those colors as often due to having most of my quilting time consumed with custom orders. (This is not a bad problem to have; it’s a huge blessing, and I’m not complaining.) The pattern was really fun, and I am proud of myself for making the time for the quilt along.

BUT, I don’t think I’m the best quilt alonger (I’m declaring that a word). I say this because quilt alongs are designed to pace yourself, and I couldn’t shake the get it finished ASAP mentality. Since I sell quilts on the side of a full time job, I’ve gotten in the habit of getting as much done as I can when I can. This quilt was no different. I happen to have a few snow days during the first week of this quilt along. We don’t get those very often around where I’m from, so I couldn’t help but make the most of them. I finished all of the tasks for the quilt along, completing the whole quilt top (a month’s worth on the quilt along schedule) by day 2 of the quilt along. I plan to do all five quilt alongs from this book, so I’ve got a few more tries at being a better quilt alonger. We will see if I do any better next time.

Hosting my own quilt along this year?

My pattern – “Checker Cakes”

My “Checker Cakes” Pattern is available as a free download. It’s a hybrid between a checkerboard quilt and a nine patch quilt. I designed it to make use of some leftover layer cake squares, but it would also be great to use up big scraps or for using new layer cakes. I talk about this pattern a lot more here.

I would really like to host my own quilt along this year. It would be a FREE quilt along using my FREE “Checker Cakes” pattern. It would probably be in April. If you would be interested in joining, comment or email me.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read my blog. I hope you enjoyed it. I’d love to hear from you, so if you have any questions, comment or email me.

Happy quilting!
