Partial Dreams Quilt Along: Week 6

Partial Dreams Quilt Along: Week 6

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already Week 6 of our quilt along! Nothing new this week. We’ll make another 6 blocks. After that, Week 7 will be our last week of making blocks before we put our quilt tops and we wrap this up in Week 8.

Since there isn’t anything new while we make blocks, I’m going to use the posts for this week and next week to talk about some things related to finishing your quilts after the quilt along wraps up.

For today, I want to talk about labeling your quilts

Of course, this is not necessary to complete your quilts, but it’s always a good idea. Lately, I’ve been a little obsessed with sending graphics from my patterns to my fabulous label maker, Melanie at Meandaer and Make/Southerncharmquilts (affiliate link). She is able to use my graphics that I draw with the patterns and put them onto one of her fabulous labels. Partial Dreams is a special pattern to me. I wrote it during the Quilter’s Candy Pattern Writing Course back in 2022 and decided to offer it FREE as a thank you to my subscribers. So, of course I wanted to get a custom label made for my quilt that I’m making with you during this quilt along.

My little obsession with getting labels made specifically for my patterns started at the beginning of this year when I was getting ready for my Dublin Fancy Quilt along. I’ve always ordered my logo labels from Melanie because they are fabulous, but Dublin Fancy was the one that got me started with thinking I must have a label with the name of the pattern on it too.

For that quilt along, I reworked my Dublin Fancy pattern. The pattern and dimensions are still the same, but I decided it needed a refresh in the new/upgraded drawing and layout software I’m currently using for patterns. I also changed all of the colors in the pattern to match the new cover quilt I made. Since I did all of this, I thought it would be fun to draw a graphic with the pattern and use it in a label. Then I thought it would be cool to allow other people besides me to get that label with their name on it. So, I talked to Melanie about making my pattern labels available to anyone in her shop. You can see how a simple idea can quickly spiral… if you give a quilter a pretty label…

Since all this started I’ve had labels made for this pattern we’re using for this quilt along (Partial Dreams), Sew Diamond, and Franken-Patches in addition to the original quilt specific label, Dublin Fancy. Each one of these quilts is special to me for different reasons. So, of course I had to get a label made for them.

The design for Sew Diamond was selected to be part of the Be Sew Fabulous display at Bernina University in a couple weeks. I was SEW excited when I found out about this and definitely surprised to be chosen. So yeah, I got a label made. If anyone reading this goes to that event, take a picture of my quilt!

Franken-Patches is one of my $3.99 patterns with Cut Loose Press. This is one of those patterns where I was drawing stuff and experimenting without knowing what the final mockup would end up looking like, one of those I wonder what would happen if I do this, designs. I loved how it turned out! It made al lot of cool secondary designs that I didn’t think about before I drew it, and I was able to use some beautiful Benartex fabric for it. The line is called Begins With Mum. So, of course it had to have a label because, well those reasons are as good as any.

Melanie has a listing for my labels in her shop. You can get those HERE (affiliate link). Use the code SNUGGLEBUGSTITCHING for 10% off at checkout. Just be sure to select which label you want since there are currently 4 choices. You can see pictures of all of them below.

A great record of the quilt

Labeling your quilts is great not just because the labels are pretty and customizable, but they are also a great record of the quilt you made. When your beautiful quilts get passed down through generations, somebody who truly appreciates quilts may get their hands on one of them. Have you ever seen an old quilt and wondered… Who made this quilt? What’s that pattern called? How old is this quilt? All of these things can be put on your label.

If you want to sell quilts, a label is a great idea. Let’s say you have an online shop and a stranger finds you and asks you to make a quilt. Of course your client loves your awesome quilt and decides that if they ever want another quilt made, they want you to make it. BUT, unfortunately six months later when this client wants another quilt, they don’t remember the name of the person who made it or the shop they ordered that quilt from. If you have a label it will be a lot easier for them to track you down. The ability to put your logo on your quilts is another huge advantage to labeling your quilts. Arecognizable logo that can go on your label is great for branding.

I do have a post on the how and why of labeling your quilts. You can read that HERE. I also have a post on one of my favorite projects and the sweet message the client had on the label. You can read that HERE, but I should warn you that if you are already a little emotional today, this one might make you cry a little bit.
