Partial Dreams Quilt Along: Week 8

Partial Dreams Quilt Along: Week 8

Week 8 of our quilt along starts today! It’s hard to believe that it’s our last week. This week, we’ll assemble our quilt tops. For this post, I’m going to talk a little about color balance. I am one of those quilters who tries to keep same prints and similar colors from touching in my quilt tops. You can read my post about balancing the colors in T-Shirt quitls HERE.

I worked on laying out my blocks for my quilt over the weekend. There are a few ways you can go about getting your blocks together: layout them out in sections and sew them together as you go, or wait until all of your blocks are completed and lay them out. Both of these work and there isn’t a wrong answer. Do what works best for you! Your quilt = your rules! I prefer to make all of my blocks first and them lay them out because I tend to obsess over rearranging them until no similar prints or colors are touching.

For this quilt, I gave up on rearranging pretty quick and decided to just go with it. Sometimes the more you rearrange, the more you realize it may not actually be possible to keep similar colors from touching everywhere. I posted pictures and said pretty much that same thing on my social medias, and I had some comments from people who dealt with the same thing in their quilts. So, you do have my permission (not that you actually need it) to leave a few similar colors or prints touching in your quilts. If you don’t want to cause yourself extra frustration by “fixing” one “problem spot” and causing two more in the process, it is perfectly ok to just let it go. Your quilt will still be gorgeous!

You can see in the pictures of my quilt top that there are a few spots where red touches pink or orange, but overall the color balance is still nice with no clumps of the same color. I refuse to not love this fun and happy quilt because of a few places where red touches pink or orange, and you shouldn’t let that bother you in your quilt either.

Finishing your Quilt

Basting, quilting, and binding aren’t part of our schedule for this quilt along, but I thought I’d drop off a few links to help you with those things. There will also be a new basting post coming later this week for my Summer WIP It Challenge. You can sign up for that HERE. Ok, so here’s some links:
